MANHATTAN, New York (WABC) — A water main break in Manhattan is causing subway service disruptions, including suspensions to certain lines.
The FDNY responded to 418 Central Park West for a 12-inch water main rupture around 1:50 p.m., which sent water above into the street and down into the subway.
Department of Environment Protection officials say responding crews turned off the water around 2:45 p.m.
Officials say eight buildings, three on Central Park West and five other buildings, are without water, impacting about 250 units in total.
Crews are trying to condense the area of the shutoff by isolating the block, which they say will hopefully result in fewer homes without water.
Mayor Eric Adams said the city has “water on the go” on site for impacted residents until their water is restored.
Meanwhile, subway service has been impacted on several lines due to the water main break, but officials said during a briefing on Wednesday night that they would be “restored shortly.”
B and C trains remain suspended in both directions.
The A and D trains, which had been partially suspended, are running local between 59th Street and 145th Street, but delays are expected.
The MTA advised riders headed to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade balloon inflation on the Upper West Side, to take the No. 1 train.
